The Holiday List of things to do this week!

There's still light displays and of course New Year's Eve ahead.

Hope your Christmas was merry!  There's still great light displays to see around the area, and some New Year's Eve celebrations going on around town.  Stay safe, be well, and keep rockin!


Dec 29 & 30 (5:30-9:30pm): Free Ice Skating and Family Fun Night at the Memorial Coliseum.  Doors open at 5, and on Friday there’s back to back Disney movies on the new digital screens of the Coliseum scoreboard.  5:30-Frozen, 7:30p-The Mighty Ducks.

Now - Dec. 28: The Train to Christmas Town, with a visit from Santa and his elves.  It’s a 75-minute train ride along the Columbia River.  With cocoa, cookies and music.

Now - Dec. 31 (4 to 9 p.m.): Lighting of Maddax Woods, 5785 River Street in West Linn. Follow colorful lights through the woods to a viewing platform on the Willamette.

Now - Dec. 26: Winter Wonderland has 250 colorful displays at Portland International Raceway. Drive through.  Billed as the largest light show in the Northwest.

Now - Dec. 30: Christmas Festival of Lights at The Grotto.  Features a walk among lights, choirs, carolers, a petting zoo, puppet shows, and hot chocolate. Closed 12/25.

Now - Dec. 31: Christmas in the Garden at Oregon Garden in Silverton.   600,000 lights, music, a Christmas market, ice skating, snowless tubing, and Santa. Closed Dec., 24, 25.

Now- Jan. 7, 2018: ZooLights transforms the Oregon Zoo into a Winter Wonderland! Closed Jan. 1-4.

Dec 31 (9 p.m.): Get Loud at the Library at Beaverton City Library. A night of dancing, games, mini golf, ping pong, food, and a midnight balloon drop” Children may attend but are charged the adult price.

Dec 26 – 31: Pittock Mansion’s “A Very Portland Christmas,” when it’s decorated for the holidays by professional designers and volunteers, and musicians play holiday music in the music room.

Dec 15 - 31 (6 to 11 p.m.): Lights on Peacock Lane. 

Dec 27: The Harlem Globetrotters at the Moda Center.

Dec 27 – 31:  Whale Watching Week. Volunteers will help you spot whales at 24 sites. Check with Depoe Bay Whale Center in Newport for locations.

Dec 31 (8 p.m.): New Year’s Eve Extravaganza at Curious Comedy Theater features four hours of sketch, stand up, improv, and aerial arts plus hors d’oeuvres, dessert, a champagne toast, and a midnight dance party for 100 people.

Dec 31 (dusk to dawn): McMenamins’ New Year’s Eve Packages at various locations include dinner, party, champagne, hotel room, and breakfast.

Thurs, Jan 4 (5 to 8 p.m.): Free day at Portland Art Museum (and on the first Thursday of every month).

Jan 5 (4 to 8 p.m.): Free admission to the Portland Children’s Museum.  The First Friday Night of each month it’s free.

Sunday, Jan 7 (2 to 9 p.m.): The No Pants Max Ride with an after party.

Jan 7: Oregon Museum of Science and Industry offers $2 Days at OMSI the first Sunday of the month. Add $5 for an optional submarine tour or planetarium show.
