Hops Festival, comedy, more Oktoberfests, and Haunted Houses...oh my!

Sept 24 – 26: Oregon Independent Film Festival features about 75 independent films from 14 countries and has especially good documentaries.

Sept 26 – 30: The All Jane Comedy Festival at Curious Comedy Theater. Women comedians.

Sept 27 – 30: Oregon’s Alpenfest is celebrating Swiss and Bavarian culture with beer, bratwurst, polka bands, alphorns, Swiss yodeling, accordionists, and a craft fair near Wallowa Lake.

Sept 28 – 29: Portland Fresh Hops Fest at Oaks Amusement Park. features beer made with fresh hops for adults and root beer for kids (minors only OK on Saturday, 12 to 5 pm).

Sept 28 – 30: Portland Juggling Festival at Reed College offers shows, workshops, vendors, and a juggling & vaudeville extravaganza Saturday night.

Sept 28 – 30: The Oregon International Air Show at Hillsboro Airport, featuring airplanes up close and in the air, aerobatics, skydivers, a kids’ zone, a beer garden, and Friday fireworks

Sept 28 - Nov. 3: The 13th Door Haunted House features “animated creatures and theatrical actors” at 3855 SW Murray Boulevard in Beaverton.

Sept 28 - Nov. 3: House of Shadows is a “disturbing” haunt with performers who will grab you but not grope you in Gresham. Children 13 to 18 must be with a parent.

Sept 29 (noon to 11 pm): Widmer Oktoberfest at Pioneer Courthouse Square. Munich-style ales, German food, and music.

Sept 29 (5 to 10 pm): Mad Catter Big Cat Bash at The Melody Event Center.  Live music, dinner, drinks, dancing, and a charity auction to support WildCat Ridge Sanctuary.

Sept 29 – 30: Body Mind Spirit Expo has exhibits and presentations about alternative health and psychic power at Oregon Convention Center.

Sept 30: Wild about Game at the Resort at the Mountain.  Watch competing chefs cook elk, pheasant, rabbit, and water buffalo; try samples with wine; and vote for the best at for age 21+. No dogs.

Oct 1 – 30: The Lighted Halloween Fantasy Trail at Wenzel family farm in Oregon City.  With a castle, suspension bridge, tunnel, and maze.

Oct 1 – 31: Davis Graveyard in Milwaukie. Go after dusk to see the lights, special effects on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings plus Oct. 31. Free.

Oct 2 – 30: The Haunted Pub Tour in Portland’s historic Old Town District includes tasting beer at two historic pubs, hearing stories about their resident ghosts, and exploring the Shanghai Tunnels. Closed Mondays.
