After a ground breaking ceremony almost 3 years ago, this weekend, the grand opening of Jimi Hendrix Park will be celebrated from Noon to 5pm this Saturday.  The setting is in his hometown of Seattle next to the Northwest African American Museum. His half-sister Janie will be on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Here's a link to the page about the festivities.

There's also music, food, and family activities to round out a celebration.

I'm glad there's a park that was set up in his honor because in just 27 years he definately changed the way we thought about the guitar and performance art.  I don't know if people think of what Jimi did on stage as performance art, but go back to the "Monterey Pop" Pennibaker movie and you decide if that is something completely different for the times or not.

It's also nice to think of a place other than a graveyard to pay respects to the man.  Experience Music Project definately pays homage as well, so maybe it's time for another trip to the Emerald City to give some love to Jimi.

Gone way too long, but never forgotten.
