Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford says the band started recording a new song in London while on a European tour.

In an interview Whitford said, "This song is a musical idea of Joe Perry‘s. We’re doing it very much like we did songs back when we started out. It’s very rock ‘n roll.”

Whitford did say he wasn't sure when or how the new tune, or any others that come along, would be released, but added that the band has other options besides just issuing a traditional album. He explained, "You know, you don’t have to record a whole CD anymore. So, hopefully, we can put out this one song or two or three. The music business has changed so much since we started. You have to do things really differently.”

Although the band's last studio LP, 2012's Music From Another Dimension, was met with indifference from fans, bassist Tom Hamilton said at the time that recording new music was important for Aerosmith: "I so want to be known as a band that is still firing on all cylinders. We could go out and work every year and just play, y'know, all our same old songs year after year, but it would have been a very uneasy feeling to me to think about not ever having an album of new material out.”

Although Steven Tyler has dropped more than a few hints that their present tour will be its last, Whitford thinks the band will keep things going for a while. He said, "Hopefully, there’s five more years, if not longer. We’re going to keep playing until we can’t play anymore.”
