Neal Casal, the influential guitarist who played with the likes of Willie Nelson and Ryan Adams, has died at the age of 50.

Pitchfork is reporting a representative for the artist says it was death by suicide. Casal started his career in the 1980's with Blackfoot and released his debut solo album, Fade Away, in 1995.

Casal's representatives released a statement reading: “As many of you know, Neal was a gentle, introspective, deeply soulful human being who lived his life through artistry and kindness. His family, friends and fans will always remember him for the light that he brought to the world. Rest easy Neal, we love you.”
